NEW to MODEM - Techwatch: Satellite TV forums, FTA, Cable, Hardware, & Tech forums

Hi i am new to cable modem and have no idea after reading lots of posts maybe becasue i don't know from start how to solve this, I would appriciate if anyone can explain how to do this from start. I have two modem . one is two months old which i havn't used and other one is two years old which i havn't used either. Please explain from the start or let me have the link from where i can config my modem. I would appriciate if anyone can help me. I can not find The Haynes Guide either.

first what modems you got, if 250 the 1 that is two years do not put cable feed in or it will update..

one modem new one (had two months ago)says infront 2100 and mac 001cea418ae made scientific atlanta. The old moden is made of Motorola and says SB5100i.

I don't know if this is any good.

Also i have read one thread where it says that to sniff for MAC address the best is to do from your mates house not from yours. I had Virgin connection but i have disconnected that three months ago. Do i still need to search for mac from my freidns or family members house or shall i just connect my disable connection wire with modem and search for MAC. ... Also i was reading Haynes guide it says something about MAC for swap i cannot find this anywhere . Do you know where it is.
