Default Hard drive broken?

I've got a Maxtor Diamondmax second drive which looks like it's died. I think I took it out and in and it stopped working. Now it's not recognised in bios, by windows, or by maxtor's own diagnostic software. I've tried another drive on the same power and ide cables, and it works fine.

Does this sound like it's dead and unfixable?

Sounds like it's dead to me, but you say you took it out and I assume put it back in and it's not working. Maybe you could have damaged one of the connectors on it? I'd personally say it could be one of the power socket pins, just have a look at the solder joints just to make sure it's not just a quick touch with a soldering iron that's needed...

If not, Maxtor might be generous and swap it for you...
