Question Satellite System Setup

Hello all,

I am looking to set up a Satellite TV system in our French property and would like it to recieve all the free UK channels.

What I need to know is what type of set top box would do the job? Im not looking for anything fantastic, just something to get us viewing. Maybe something like a Freesat box?

Also what type of dish would I need? Will it have to be bigger than the normal Sky type ones used in the UK to be able to pick the channels up from France?

And lastly, how do I go about pointing the dish at the right part of the sky?

Thanks,

Stuart

1metre dish should do if your down in the south of france, further up you are in france the less dish size you will need to use to get all channels even ones on astra 2d

Central France, about an hours drive north of Limoges.

Would something like the Technomate TM3100D Motorised System from Southern Satellite work ok?

Yes, it would be fine. You don't need it to be motorised to get the UK channels, but the motor will give you added flexibility to receive from other satellites if you wanted to.

Pointing a fixed dish is a fairly easy process. When you get the gear, post back if you need help.

Hey all I saw the above post and wanted to get my wife set up with a satellite system.
I purchased a Technomate TM3100D but it seems complicated i always get 5% quality and between 65/75% signal. I ponced about moving the dish etc but cant improove those stats, never get any pictures either.

Tried the box on my old Dish (mums house) and it managed to get loads of channels etc but mostly scrambled.

Took my mums dish to my wifes house to test and still no joy (using all new cables etc).

Ive orded a signal finder from ebay etc but im wondering whats wrong and if I need to patch the box also?

Thanks in advance to everyone

Hi there,

When you took the box to your mum's house was the satellite dish installed? if yes it was probably pointing to 28E so you would get loads of channels. What you need to do is point the satellite 28 degrees east of south. Look around at other dishes, you would be very lucky indeed to get it spot on without some type of aid. The signal finders from flea bay are a bit hit and miss, but if you are in approximately the right area you will probably suceed. God luck anyhow.

regards

When I took the box to my Mums house the dish was already up etc and I just switched her sly box for the tm one.

This was also the case at my house but I couldnt get any pictures I think my daughter had been wacking the original dish with a golf club or summin.

I tried to copy the angle of the other dishes in the area but it's not as easy as I thought it would be

Ive ordered some kind of satallite finder from flea bay so fingers crossed it will help me find a satellite

ATM the freeview signal we get is terrible and the existing terristrial tv is a lame signal also. So any channels even FTA would be great.

Personally I don't care much as I watch most things on my laptop via neighbours wifi signal

You have 19.2E, you want 28.2 E.

From behind dish, you need to swivel it LEFT, and DOWN a bit.
