Well, doing that did seem to change something, as when I couldn't get a picture on the laptop before, all I got was a big cone in the video window, but now I just get "No video" and the TV shows the channel as opposed to being just a blank screen, so something has changed, I just don't know where to go next...

I suspect that the cone would be the VLC Icon.

There is a dbox2FAQ in the private FTA downloads which has a guide to configuring the VLC install, it's a bit out of date but may help.

I've read guides on how to set up VLC, but I've set it up as best I can do, but all I get are FTA channels...
