Default HP Pavilion needs new Hard drive

Hi

My HP Pavilion ZE5602ea that I have had for about 5 years needs a new HD. i really just use it as a back up machine and portable DVD player but occasionally for client presentations.

Originally it came with a 40GB HD but I was thinking about getting something about 160GB, however I remembered reading something years ago about some laptops not being compatable with HD over 80GB?

I enquired to HP as to whether mine was limited to this size and they confirmed it was, however I have my doubts as they also are trying imply that I may only fit an overpriced HP/Compaq one. Which I know is untrue as I've had a Hitachi in it to test.

So are they right about it being limited to 80GB? Where could I find this info?

Many thanks

Bertie

I would say that due to the age of your laptop, the BIOS will probably be limited to 80GB, if you can get a larger drive to test then feel free to have a go, but yes, it'll very likely be limited to 80GB...

But either way, ignore their sales pitches and get yourself whatever drive your wallet will let you, I got a 60GB Toshiba MK6034GAX drive for my laptop for just £20, brand new OEM too, it works perfectly and it's totally silent, I have to put my ear to the laptop to actually hear it working...

A local computer fair near the end of last year, I'm not sure if there are any at the same price anywhere else...

The annoying thing is we haven't had a computer fair here for months, so no bargain 'puter prices ever since...
