Can anyone clear this up for me is it only a matter of what image is on the Dbox to show either Satellite or cable

no, they have different tuners you will not be able to use a cable dbox2 for sat or vice versa........

they use different types of modulation

cable dvb-c uses Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (QAM)

and

satellite dvb-s uses QPSK (Quadrature Phase Shift Keying)

along with different frequency ranges
