Post Ntl Dublin users having problems??

Just wanted to check out if the info I got was true. Was given the heads up that Ntl are putting stingers(not sure if this is the real name)on their cable network. The device is only good for a limited distance so is installed at intervals around a housing estate up at the eves where the pods are. ITs job is to constantly send updating signals down the cable into your house. Because the offical ntl box does not lose picture when updating you dont even know its happening. Where as the Eurovox goes to a black screen for the duration of the update.

The mate who is on the Ntl cable network could not get his box(Max version) with the April update to work, just kept getting the updating message or no signal message. Signal quality is good(85%) and tried doing factory defaults but still no joy.
With out changing any firmware I brought the box back to my place which is on Ntl's MMDS network and did a simple install and wala, worked perfectly
So would like to hear from other Dublin cable users to see if there having the same problems.

Thanks

A few channels went on me the other day but an autoscan brought them back. They replaced all their cabling recently so you can get tv, phone and broadband from them now. Have'nt heard anything about ''stingers''. Did this happen after he updated box?

They are presently updating the cable in Dublin 11.

(I'm looking forward to a perfect reception. Up on till now I think I'm the only one in Dublin with a bad BBC2 reception. It just wont travel to other rooms and then I get jumpy channels on the likes of More4+1 and others on the Eurovox.)

Hate to break it to you but that happens to me now, after new cable put in. But I think its down to crappy coax connectors all over my house (at least I hope so). I'll have to invest in better quality gear.

The mates in D5 where they have been updating to the newer cable for a while and have just started to make it live. He updated his box when the fix came out in April/May and all was fine. As mentioned before when you do an advance install and set it to start at 291mhz and end around 450mhz with symbol rate @ 6887 it tells him signal quality is 82-87% but now picks up no TP's and in turn no channels. Have checked his connections and all seems fine, will keep trying .
Just to mention again the same box installs and works perfectly on Ntl's MMDS system. I have a mate who lives just around the corner from the first mate whos having the problem so will try it in his house to rule out bad connection problems.
Hoping its not a so called stinger that is to blame, time will tell as I am sure it will soon become more wide spread around the city.

Fj1200 can you say what postcode area your in?? if not no worries

I am hoping they are. Was talking to a mate today who works for NTl and he has heard nothing. The only thing he did mention was that they were putting up more amps(little silver boxes) under the eves along with the new cabling. Am going to have another hunt around and check my connections

Cheers

Checked all the connections and all were fine. Went into secert menu(1968)and there was nothing showing in the keys section. So I clicked yellow(i think) an re-installed default keys and came out of it and all seems to be working fine now. I have since gone back into the secert menu in the keys section but nothing is showing up but yet the box is working fine now

When in CAS menu, use your < or > keys on your remote and you will get to the Nagravision page. Latest firmwares only have Nagra page. The amps are for broadband upgrade.
