Hi to you all. I`m completely new to satellite systems and need some help with my SL65. I seem to be able to pick up loads of foreign stations on Astra and Hotbird and even a few on Sirius but cant seem to get any of the local ftv channels (BBC,ITV,FILM4 etc.etc) Am I doing something really stupid or is there something wrong with the receiver
Any help would be appreciated Vicnob |

Hi,
I assume that you have a fixed dish? Can you name a few channels and their frequncies, and then we can work out which satellite your dish is pointing at. You need to point it at 28E. If it is a single LNB fixed dish, you will only be able to pick up one satellite at a time. You think you are getting 3 because the same transponder frequencies are used over and over again accross satellites. Robbo ![]() |

Hi Robbo, thanks for your quick reply.
I`m picking up channels on Hotbird, Astra 28e and some from Sirius I think because when I go into the signal monitor, it tells me what satellite i am recieving. Does that make sense? regards vicnob |

Sorry Robbo, I didnt explain that very well. When I rotate the dish and look at the signal monitor on the receiver, it only registers a signal when i point at the satellite that is shown on the satellite list. For example, I point the dish at 28e and select Astra on the reciever and then watch the signal meter. I am assuming that I am actually picking up Astra or does the receiver just dump whatever its found into the astra slot?

Kind of yes.
If you say point the dish as AStra 19E and set the receiver up for 28E and do a scan, it will dump all the channels it finds into the 28E storage area on the receiver. But the actual channels you can watch will be from 19E, and you won't get all the channels as not all the transponders are common. The next time you get a good signal, keep the dish still for a minute and make a note of say five channels that you can watch and their frequencies. |

Thanks Robbo. Do you think I should delete the preloaded satellites and start all over? Its very confusing as I`ve set up the dish with a compass and all the correct settings from satboard, selected the satellite that I wanted to receive on the receiver and assumed that when i got a good signal on the signal monitor, i was actually picking up the satellite that I thought.
Thanks for all your help. you must think i`m a complete dork! |

Nope, not really
![]() It is a VERY common mistake for sat newbies to make. Yes I would delete all the channels you have so far and start again. DON'T delete any satellites OR transponders, you need them listed still. Then pick a satellite, say 28E, then monitor the signal quality on one of the transponders say 10773H. Then adjust the dish for max quality. Then do a single transponder scan if you can. See what channels you get on that tranponder, one of them should be BBC1 London plus some other BBC channels. If not, make a note of what channels you do get. |

Sorry to be a pain but how do I monitor the signal quality on one of the transponders ? I only seem to have the choice of monitoring the signal quality on the preloaded satellites

For each satellite it wil be the first transponder in its list that you are looking at. You should be able to select a different transponder. I have not got an SL65 so I don;t know how. I can do it on both my receivers.
