Default satellite elavation angle

hi in need of a big favour
having lots of trouble setting up my 90cm fortec dish with disecq motor
i seem to be missing the satellites or when i do locate one it is only the ones with large signal but also get large ber reading
i have used a signal meter to adjust the dish but even though setting to a large signal still not right
anyway to the point i believe the elevation angle to be wrong and have tried using software to calculate angle but old and thick cant seem to work it out
could some body please help and tell me what it should be
my location is (lat. 50º 48' 17.2" N long. 0º 32' 34.7" W)
thank you from old man

okay let me see if i have got this straight my lattitude is 50 degrees so i have set the motor to 50 on the lat scale elevation 40 so now all i need to do is subtract my declamation from the motors 30 degree setting
is that about it

and at the moment some of the tps have a ber reading of 44%

thanks guys really appreciate the help on this one

First get the pole vertical,
set the motor to your latitude( if marked latitude, else if marked elevation set it to 90-latitude),

set the dish so it is roughly vertical on the face (forget the numbers with this method).

Using USALS send the dish to Thor (0.8W), or 1W (0.2 out is accurate enough)
Then with the dish at thor, swivel the motor round the pole and fiddle with the dish elevation ( using the bracket on the back of the dish) looking for maximum signal quality or minimum BER on 11325H.One you have it,do a quick scan to ensure you have BBC world. The other sats should come in fine more or less, a few fine adjustments may be needed but only if the pole is perfectly vertical.

If your setting the dish elevation manually first to a rough guide, this depends on the motor either -40 OR -30.

Subtract 7.3 from either 40 Or 30 which ever

I don't ever set the declination angle as I use a pro meter but would like to know if it is 40 or 30???? Robbo

I have also done it another way, and that is send the dish to zero. Then use an angle meter to measure the angle of the output shaft off vertical and then add this to the elevation angle required for 1W, then set the dish to that.

Or is this even more complicated

Might confuse the newbies Robbo, although simple to do

There does seem to be difference in the two type Motecks (earlier version)

thank you every one for your help
but still having problems so i will start from the beginning
pole is verticl have checked this with a spirit level
have pointed dish due south with compass
set usals with my position
gone to thor
used meter to get best signal
but still can not get bbc world service
have done a blind search picking up some of the other channels so know i am pointing to the correct sat but only a few or of good quality
have tried flexing the dish to see if i can get it to improve and changing the dish elevation but cant semm to get signal quality to improve
By the way 90cm dish fortec star sigma reciever
might it be a lnb problem

hope some one has some ideas or will need to get the pros in as wife annoyed that i spend more time up a ladder than with her
