The hard drive in a standard Sky+ box is a Standard 3.5" IDE drive and can be used in anything when removed, in the SkyHD box it's a SATA drive...
![]() The capacity depends on which version you have though (I can't remember all of them but I know the first ones were Slim 40GB Maxtor drives)... ![]() |

see post Upgrading the Hard Drive in a Sky+/SkyHD box By Lincsat for further info. Gives very good pic guides on how to do it. If u want a HDD i can recommend _http://www.aria.co.uk as a supplier. I have used them for years for components and they are VERY good on both price and service.

As these are just standard IDE drives it's quite easy. Plug the drive into the pc, make sure to set the jumper on the back of the drive next to the IDE interface to either master or slave. Easy rule of thumb here if its on its own on the IDE cable its a master, if it is a second drive on the cable its a slave.
Restart the pc. go into bios and set the ide interface for the drive to auto select When in windows start - run - "cmd.exe" - this gives you the command prompt (dos) "fdisk" - this will let you partition the drive make it extended dos after exiting fdisk restart if it dosent automaticaly and the drive can be formatted by right clicking in my computer. dont quick format and use NTFS file system. BE AWARE that if you dont select the correct drive in fdisk that you will wipe whatever drive you have selected and as the default is the primary ide drive, which likely contains your operating system you will have to reinstall your pc from scratch. Good Luck BE AWARE that if you dont select the correct |
