Default Noob requesting advice

Hi all,

Like the subject line says, i'm new to this satellite malarkey, never had Sky, BSB or any of it's previous incarnations.

Basically, i'm looking to set up a system similar to those found in pubs that show football (mainly scottish football) via far flung locations. I've seen many a SPL game broadcast via Polsat, so we'll take that as an example. I'm looking at this project purely for football, any further channels gained are a bonus (or a hinderance depending on your view)

What kit am I going to need to pick up Polsat? and will that kit pick up other channels that regularly show football?

Thanks in advance

You need to look through this post;

So, where do I start then?

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

Okay, I checked that thread before I posted, the information in there provides a very general overview of setting up your own satellite system, whereas i'm looking at a fairly specific purpose.

Granted, i'm going to need a dish, LNB, box, fittings and cable. However, will I need a motorised dish? or can I set a static one to pick up Polsat? Additionally, I should have asked if a motorised unit can be mounted on the side of the house, as I may have difficulty finding a level surface as I live in a property with communal grounds.

I'm quite happy to buy a "bare bones" system if it does what i'm looking for, and if the need to change it arises in the future (i.e. Polsat stop showing SPL games) i'll look at upgrading then.
