Default It just wont FLASH !!!!

new to the forum guys so go easy on me, lol

basically i have finally realised that i already had all the latest A/U fixes and latest A/U images there on my big maq and chatterbox cc toolbars

so i have just downloaded one of the latest images to flash to my box using a crassover ethernet cable...as i have no null modem cable as yet

now i had kein system error before and i beleive paul helped me from another forum to flash the box, and eventually i got there...but now i have upgraded both pc and laptop and both now have windows vista...and for some reason the box just will not flash now, i have no idea if vista is a problem...i know one or 2 other programs have to be ran as administrator to work properly, so i tried that and the initial error message didnt appear so i figured i was getting somewhere

most of the writing is german or very bad english and hard to understand, lol

anyway...i followed instructions, and i remembered paul told me that if it didnt work switching on and off at the wall could do it...and indeed thats what did it for me last time...but each time i did this the box would just boot up and load my current image as though it wasnt even being flashed

2-3 minutes go by and then there is a message on the IFA saying in Germ-english, lol, that it couldnt connect to d-box

its driving me crazy, please please someone help me

oh also i notice around a few forums that all the images are "free to air channels only" and that you have to modify them yourself .......im hoping they are not all like this, otherwise i am screwed, LOL

If you currently have a working Image on the box, why not use the FTP method - that would at least confirm that you have the network setup correctly

i am currently won this as we speak...i got a link from another forum with complete instructions on how to transfer files over to the dbox...i tried it out with both an ethernet cable and an ethernet crossover cable(it didnt specify on the site which lead is needed but it mentioned ethernet so i tried it)

all the time all i could get was "limited connectivity" on my network, re entered the ip etc 5-6 times, tried ethernet and ethernet crossover and nothing.....

so i figured i would try to flash it with my new ENGLISH version of IFA...same again, wouldnt work...all of a sudden though whilst switching box off and on to try to get the IFA to work i got a proper netwrok connection.......so i went back to the filezilla ftp that this guide said to use and put in all the appropriate things and yet again it said unable to connect yet my network manager is saying i am connected

so i gave it up and decided i was gonna try and flash it 1 more time before consulting you fine bunch of clever people for more clues

and well guess what....IT WORKED...it flashed and i am now currently running a channel scan...LETS PRAY ALL IS GOOD !!!

i have a feeling though from looking around that this is gonna be a free to air image only...and then im gonna be right back at square 1

anyways, ordered the nullmodem cable from ebay, so hopefully i can make this easier in future.

thanx for the help guys, let you know how i go

If connecting direct to your PC, you will need a crossover cable, if connecting through a router, you can use either a crossover or straight.

It does sound like a networking issue with Vista. If connecting directly, you need to set a static IP on your PC and use IPV v4 (hope I have the spelling right) - don't forget to change it back after you've finished.

yea i did all that mate, and yes i used a cross over lead and it just wouldnt work, all i kept getting was limited connectivity...i bet i switched the box off and on again over 75 times and i got a connection only twice

ANYWAY...

the flashing works and i am more than happy with the new image, nice black layout instead of the horrible blue from before, lol

all channels except just one that i can think of thats bbc3...but oh well...told the missus she will have to make sure she watches eastenders at 7 or whenever now cuz she wont get the re run at 10, LMAO

if anyone else is interested i used the Pacino TRILOGY 1x image...and its really good, well i like it anyway, im loving the black/grey layout

As far as the limited or no connectivity issue is concerned people need not worry about this because if you have a kein system box with no IP addy then you can't create a network. So, until IFA kicks in and creates a proper network there isn't one !! LOL !!

What I am trying to say is ignore the message, it means jack **** in terms of the flashing with IFA process.
