thank analoguessat & jimdefruit & madsod for this help to start us noob to unstanding how to use a dreambox as this none of my work
now we geting some where

step 1
so u buy a dreambox u need to need to buy i lan cable and use FlashWizard Pro - and Dreamboxedit. Both are free and can be found easily enough

step 2
emulator and key

An emulator is effectively a softaware cam - its the decryption unit. They dont contain keys, but key files can be found in various locations, and some images have key updaters built in but Id strongly suggest you stay well away from the satan key updater - its past its prime andd is basically a pile of sh!te . If it cant connect to the server for any reason it has a nasty habit of trashing the image in use, and its no fun having to put everything back together.ftp keys u send over to the dreambox or edit key file on pc to and send to your dreambox

I would strongly recommend using a prog called FlashFXP to ftp the files from your PC to the Dreambox. (ie transfer the files as you would in moving files from one folder to another on your PC)

The reason I recommend FlashFXP rather than using software like DCC or dreamboxedit is that you can actually see what you are doing and you learn much faster.

If you get an emu .tar.gz file on your PC and unrar it you will see the files and the locations in the Dreambox folders. They are slightly different for each image but the emu bin file and the keys files generally go to the same place for each image.

If you go for a 500 or 7000 Dreambox, the files go into /var/. The other Dreambox models use /usr/

The folders in general use for the files as an example are:

CCcam - /var/bin - change the attributes to 755 (ie make the file executable)
CCcam.cfg - /var/keys
CCcam_emu.sh - /var/script - change the attributes to 755 (ie make the file executable)
The keys files go into /var/keys

keys files for some other emus go into /var/scce but if you use CCcam you only need the /var/keys folder

To change the attributes (permissions) of a file to 755, just right click on the file in FlashFXP and select 'attributes' and change the number to 755

Having added a new config file, reboot the Draembox and select the required emu using the blue button.

Most images have emulator links built in. For example if you have gemini get your lan working then you need to press

blue
2
download gemini server
cams

DONT download everything going! You dont need them. I just use cccam 2.0.7. Its not the latest but it does what I need.

Images.

There are some on the download section here on the forum.

Apart from the gemini images heres some useful links:

_http://www.dreambox4u.com/
_http://www.pli-images.org/news.php
_http://www.polarteam.org/

There is also the Nabilosat image, but they seriously lost the plot after v0.6, and the later ones are awful to use.

There are many others but these are the main ones used. If you get multiboot running you can stick extra ones on a memory stick or cf card and switch between them at will.

Are you sure its inf. It should be a .nfi if it is for the 7020. That file is a complete image and not just an emu.

Once you install the image, and if you have the Dreambox connected to the internet, you can do as Analoguesat says and install the emu from the Gemini server.

IMHO the CCcam 2.09 emu is the best public emu available at present.

Ok whatever you do dont try a .nfi image on a 500.

I would strongly recommend Dreambox World for images and emus. Do a googly and you should find it ok. These days you have to register but it doesn't cost. The images are all located in the correct Dreambox model list so it unlikely you will go wrong.

Because the 500 is severely restricted on memory, you will need to use what is called a maxvar image. That makes the best use of available memory.

If you intend to use the Dreambox as an enthusiast and want to play rather than just watch tv, I would strongly recommend that you opt for a secondhand 7000 or a 7020 if you can afford it. You can do so much more with the latter models.

Id have to agree with JDF - go for the 70x0 series box if you can afford it. You can do far more with it (eg multiboot). Theres not much difference between them - the 7020 have an rf modulator so you can distribute signals via an aerial cable, and have a bit more memory in them.

Dreambox World:
