If you intend to use a Gemini image on a 500 make sure you have a 100% Genuine pukka Dreambox 500

If its not you can kiss goodbye to the bootloader on your box. This can be fatal to the box although in some cases it can repairable although it is quite time consuming.

One of the ways to check is to look at the MAC address of the box. There is usually a sticker on the box or its packing which states the MAC.

If the first 6 figures don't start 00:09:34 Its probably a clone. Any version of Gemini later than 4.20 could mess it up big style with their new added Clone detection system

I would go for an image like Powerboard Enigma, S.I.F 1.9.1, Nabilosat v0.8 Maxvar, DS 3.6 or Puntal. I find the Gemini images very boring to be honest

The Nabilosat image is quite a stable one and everything can be added to it from the blue button. The Skins can be a bit over the top as Analoguesat said but never the less its a very good image on the 500s

You are getting keen. So many questions.

You can download the nabilosat image at the nabilosat.info site or the dreamboxworld site.

The Image must be installed first and then the emu is installed into the image.

Not very well IMHO.

The problem with this is that whilst it works, several of the Dreambox good features are restricted.

First, for it to work well, a good signal must be maintained. One slight glitch during an image transfer and you have to start again. Also security is more of a problem.

You can use a wireless interface via an access point into the Dreambox lan socket but most people who have tried this have ended up going back to a wired connection.

You can use a wireless usb network card but that uses up the USB socket which is better used for memory and additional images. I know that there is also the possibility of using the CF port or the hard drive but there are conflicts between the CF port and the hard drive interfaces. If you just use the hard drive for additional images then the hard drive runs continually which is not good.

Having said all that, if you are using a 500 and just want to watch tv and use a lan connection for adding emu changes then ok although experiences by friends have not been 100% sucessful.

600 is far better than a 500. It does not have to be connected to anything except a sat dish to work. However, to keep keys up to date, it is best to have a direct connection to the internet via a router with a lan connection to your PC to make changes if you wish.
