Default amplifier setup

Good Morning

Just took delivery of a pioneer vsx-917V amp/receiver.You set up the system by hooking up the microphone that came with it and it is supposed to do the rest for you.Has anybody used this method for home cinema and has anybody any tips.

Yes I used it on my Onkyo AV amp. It is very good as long as you follow the instructions re getting the microphone in the correct position. It saves a lot of work getting the surround speaker ballance right.

HI

Many thanks.Manual suggests using a tripod,is that the best way.Where is the best place for the mic,middle of the room or nearer your sitting position.

This amp is a 7:1,is there any advantage in me getting some rear speakers,most people I have spoke too say its very rare they get any sound from them.

If you watch films and your receiver has a digital sound output, optical or cable, then it is definitely worth getting the rear speakers. If people say they rarely get sound out of the rear speakers, it is because they are only putting a stereo signal into the system.

Also, pop a 5.1 cd into your system and listen to the difference. Its like chalk and cheese.

Been looking at these 5:1 cd,there seems to be a lot of confusion regarding surround sound dvd audio,cd (DTS),SACD,etc can you help then I will have an idea what to order.
