Angry Starview 1 - Probs with Flashing box : <

Hello all

I have a starview box, not a clone, bought June 07 and not flashed yet (by me anyway). I am fed up with updating the keys all the time so thought I would give the old flashing malarky a go!! Bought my null modem cable, USB to serial port adapter for me laptop, got the correct software (GTRom-400 loader & Cryptstar-1.4-core400bin file) but the flash just stays at 0% and says download failed!! Have installed software for USB - Serial adapter, connected the leads, put the starview into standby, opened the GTRom loader and selected the com port to match where the USB is, selected bin file, clicked download but then nothing happens. Can anyone advise where I may be going wrong before I use it as a frisbee for the pooch? Thanks in advance

when you match the port it needs to be in the 1 to 4 range

When you say 'match the port' what do you mean exactly? I plugged the USB adapter and lead into the port on the rh of my laptop (first one I came across) and selected the com port on the GTRom loader (found out it was port 3 after a couple of times of it saying it couldnt find the usb and me picking different com ports from the dropdown list) Tried a different port too, (port 4) and it still didn't work. Have I done that bit right? Thanks for your help by the way : >

the port in the gtrom loader needs to match the port assigned to your usb in device manager

Apologies for jumping in. Presuming you have loaded the driver disk for the USB adapter:

To see which port your USB adapter is connected to, connect your USB adapter and follow the following instructions:

1. Go to the Start Menu
2. Right click on "My Computer"
3. Select "Properties"
4. Click on the "Hardware" tab
5. Click on "Device Manager"
6. Click the + sign next to "Ports (COM & LPT)"
7. One of the listed ports should indicate which port your USB adapter is connected to (e.g. COM1, COM2, COM3, etc.)
8. Go back to Gtromloader and make sure it is looking at the correct port.
9. You should be able to transfer data once the correct port is selected

If you need drivers go here

http://www.gilsson.com/usb_drivers_download.htm

Follow my advice to step 7. Locate your USB Adapter (port *)

Right click on that port and select properties. Then select port settings, then select advanced. At the bottom of that tab will be a drop down box with the port selected (port * in your case).

Use the drop down to select another port (eg 1, 2 or 3). If the port you want to use is already allocated to something else, you can use the same procedure to reassign that port after you have finished.

Save the selections in the usual way. The USB converter will be permanently assigned to the port you selected.

Hiya

Yep, installed the disk that came with the USB adapter. Will follow your instructions for selecting com ports in device manager tonight and fingers crossed it should then work.
