I've done a 200 and I'm going to have a go at a 250.

I know I've got the no P problem on the modem as I had a quick look yesterday.

You need the 250 Console Hack.
Connect it up the same to your serial connection and ethernet and run it and hit exploit.

Worked for me on an Ambit 255 with no P option.

Then you just flash it as normal.
