Default 2nd pvr, trouble getting any channels.

Hi All

I just got my 2nd box, first one worked perfectly. I was helped on this forum to remove the lip of my old HD for the 1st box which worked fine, so thanks again all.

BUT having problems with this box, so not sure if the RF IN is faulty as its a little bit bent to one side.....

I have the following firmware :

DVB - XC EX5000 TDA
S/W Version 1.0 ST 15 July 08
H/W Version 2.0T K5 +D
Bootstrap V001
Software Build Kuro

So as its 1.0, I cant change the audio, right?

I am having trouble getting any channels to work. I am in the ex C&W area and am scanning on 6.692, that is correct right?

When scanning TP 000 is present but doesnt move and the channel NUM is blank...it just doesnt seem to add or save any channels..it scans up to /770 and still nothing.

The signal levels seem to jump sporadically from 82% and green, down to 2% and red as its searching....is this normal?

My line is live and working normally, so I know that is not the problem. Do you think its a problem with the actual box?

Thanks in advance for your help.....

I asked this earlier and Lincsat replied to say it's a different format to a pc

Im in Ireland Satsmo, i take it the GMT option works fine in the UK. But as regards when you set the time manually and then unplug the box from the mains it loses time settings is this down to the box not having a watch type battery??

Thanks

Its a problem specific to the Irish EPG stream and all Eurovox models, in the UK its fine, but in Ireland you need to follow these instructions:

1. Turn power off on the back of the EV for a few seconds then turn back on again..
2. When EV powers up, immediately press menu, config and time settings.
3. Set correct time using GMT settings.
4. Then turn GMT OFF.
5. Press blue button to save and exit.

It may take more than one attempt so just be patient, it does work. One thing to note though when you have the EPG correct, is to put it in standby at night, if you unplug it you will have to go through the whole process again.

When I choose not to use the GMT option and just set the time manually it works fine until I turn it off at the socket at night as I ever leave it on standby mode during the night. Is there no batteries in the Eurovox to combat having to reset the time every time you kill the power to it??

Thanks
As stated above with the Ireland problems - but don't forget that we're still in GMT+1

Default Re: Newbie with EUROVOX EX5000 PVR

Hi, Download software to your PC desktop. Attach power cable and RS232 cable to your box. Open downloaded software on your desktop and press install button. it will search which com port your eurovox is connected to. When it finds it it will start to download. It takes approx 3 mins to complete operations and will say download successful. Once you have done this take out your cables and connect your eurovox to your TV and cable input. Go into eurovox menu using the supplied remote and open up the settings menu. Go for fast install and it will search for all available channels. It will then upload and this process takes about 5 Minutes. Complete. Hope this solves your dilemma

Any ideas.

ps: Im trying to get a few old drives to work for me and friends EV PVR
Taz
taz i found these on many second hand 'acer laptop drives' its there restore section
if you cant remove these in disk management
try a free program called
'active kill disk'
it works in dos by a bootable disk or you can run it in windows
if you have a usb to laptop drive connector
*tip the external laptop drives have this connector/lead*
basically this program writes randon 0's and 1's to the entire drive and wipes out any fat or ntfs tables and index
it basically leaves you with an unformated drive

not being an expert on the eurovox pvr
i expect the start up display of ----
is the box initialising the new hard drive
hence the wait
if its taking quite a while i suggest a hard drive or loose connector issue guys

Thanks for that Satsmo. Anyone know if there is anything in the pipe line in regard to fitting a backup battery for keeping time settings when disconnected from the power as I try never to leave any kit on standby over night. Also anyone know exactly why the Irish EPG stream does not work properly on the Eurovox. Is it the box or Irish cable suppliers, if the box can a firmware not be written just for irish user

Cheers

hi guys. just a wee update......

eurovox ex5000 pvr delivered this morning. came with 1.1a firmware already flashed.
saved and copied my cdf from my eurovox 2008 box.
downloaded cdf onto ex5000.
every channel working perfect.

have an old 60Gb hardrive which has been formatted NTFS, cut the ends off with small hacksaw blade, now fits into box.
inserted, and "no hard drive installed" message. pressed pause then record. small 4sec of sly sports now on the hard drive.

go to epg, press "timer" (not rec) on sly movies 1, now recording a movie.

absolutely none of the problems a lot of you guys seem to be having, and i am really a noob at this.

best advice i can give is to read all related posts before you attempt to fix any problems. most answers are here already.
good luck, and thanks to everyone on here for the help i have had in the past to get me up and running.
