Default Comparisons of cable boxes

Hi guys - Ive searched this forum high and low looking for advice on which is the best box to buy. The 'Favourite Cable box' poll is the closest I came to any such information and even that is lacking.

Could you please post any information you have about differences between boxes, any issues with them and even what you think of your box (especially comparisons between them if you own more than one).

I was shocked when I read that a Eurovox box didnt support widescreen - does anybody know if this is true? Seems like a huge deal to me.

There are also clones - what is the deal with these, from my newbie perpective, they sound like cheap 'copy' boxes but I dont know what they are.

Are the copies reliable? Are they identical to what they are copying, and if not, how?

A Pace STB can only process 4:3 and 16:9 formats. 14:9 is displayed as 16:9.
A Samsung STB can display any 3 formats.

Ill add any information or input on the different boxes to the first post.

Ok - but people are talking about the Euromax Ultra being amongst the best boxes they have owned, except apparantly they are clones of a Dreambox?

Bummer..that confuses things. I read that the Eurovox Ultra (which is being hailed as excellent by many people) is a 'copy' of the Dreambox 500C.

Its so difficult to pick out a box. It seems like the old Pace4000n boxes are still excellent, and others can offer no improvements on it.

Eurovox Ultra is a clone of the Dreambox 500c, that is not a bad thing but if it has the same tuner as an Envision 500c (another DB clone) then it will need a hearing aid as they are deaf as a**eholes.

The Eurovox does support widescreen 16:9.

Clones are always made with cheaper parts but are not necessarily sold cheaper - support for these boxes cannot be guaranteed as you are relying on a third party to hack the genuine firmware and amend it to work on clones.

FYI modded cable boxes will not provide you with as many channels as the Starviews, Eurovoxes, Kryptviews etc. (or at least that is what I'm led to believe)
