Hi, Have just bought a usb converter to rs232 does not fit the back off the cable box any idea what the correct one is called.Chap in the shop said this was the correct one.

you need a null modem cable aswell to attach to the usb-rs232

i got a free cable with my box which the guy said was a r232 and have been reading that you need a null data cable to flash your box, i have the ex5000. Will the cable supplied work,does the guy not know what a null data cable is and will i be able to use the r232 to usb converter that i just bought aswell?

yes it'll work m8, same thing different name lol
the usb converters are pretty much hit + miss they work for some but not others ![]() you'll probably have to have a mess with your com settings or you could be lucky and it works straight away ![]() |

i have seen mentioned on ebay along with the usb converters that they include drivers and stuff for them, is this what Ian is talking about or is it still a matter of luck.

Ronster can you please clarify for novice what is required in terms of adaptors etc fit rs 232 Null Modem Cable. Guidance required as my computer does not have port to receive Null Modem Cable. Thanks |

you need these 2 cables mate, usb-rs232 converter and a null modem
|
