Default Couple of questions about eurovox 2007 red

Ive posted in a few other threads and got some help there, but i thought it would be better to post my own.

I bought a eurovox a few days ago, and its going to be quite a while until i can get my null modem cable (getting off ebay) and i was wondering if the eurovox will pick up the channels without flashing? the eurovox update flashes the box and it makes it so that you dont need to update the keys manually.
I have nothing against updating the keys manually at the moment, i have done EVERYTHING possible in order to do it.

One thing that stumps me is how people know who they are with telepest or nthell. Im with v*rgin media, and i swear to god nthell and telepest merged together and then they were bought by v*rgin... So what symbol rate do i use, etc. This is confusing the living hell out of me.

I have downloaded the bigmaq toolbar and entered both the pure NTL and TW keys by going to menu then pressing the yellow button and entering the data, guess what? No channels apart from the free to air ones. Ive tried power scanning again, and the same thing happens.

What am i doing wrong?
Im on the verge of crying, haha.

You might be exC&W.

Generally though the only reason keys don't work is cos of a typo. To check you have input them correctly

Go to Menu / Language Settings and key in the numbers 19681968 on your remote. You should now see a list of cable providers, arrow across <> till you find yours and check you've input your keys correctly. If you have made a mistake you can fix it there.

I remember about 3 years ago i was round a mates house and he had NTL tv (ntl box with a card or soemthing, i honestly cant remember his setup exactly it was so long ago) which leads me to believe im in an ntl area.
Im now power scanning on 6887 for NTL, if i recieve any channels, i'll proceed to stick the keys in (i assume im doing it correctly by going to main menu and pressing the yellow button and entering 54 01 then the 2 keys (00 and 01 respectively).

If no joy shall i try the same but EX C&W?

Am i doing it right so far though?

EDIT:
the output of that search gave me:

You are on the Bromley (ex. Cable & Wireless) platform

Im going to try the C&W keys when my power scan finishes.

Lucky, so goign to menu and pressing the yellow button is the wrong way of going about doing it?

I HATE not knowing something technical. Im doing my computer science degree at uni for christ sake! lol.

You are doing it correctly. Menu / yellow button is the shortcut.

What I described is the long way bout changing them but it does let you view the keys before and after editting them. I was describing it simply as a means for checking that you input them correctly.

Yeah, ive been following these guides like holy text, haha.
When my scan finishes i'll be sure to check it out again armed with my new information.

Where exactly would i enter 5C01? Would it be in the 2 seperate sections that appear when i press the yellow button? eg, 5C in one, then 01 in the other? I assume so, just checking. I dont expect to be spoon fed, im used to finding information out on my own, but i just spent 70 quid on this box and dont want to brick it or screw it up too much =P

Ive scanned on 6887 and i have recieved no channels whatsoever. Pretty odd considering when i scan on the other rate i get 200+ channels appear.

It has happened in some other areas where VM took over X who had previously taken over from Y - some peeps use the symbol rate for X but the keys for Y.

Strange but it does happen in some places
