13 degrees east of 0 Longitude; when above equator (as in UK) looking south; when below equator, looking north.
To know how your dish should point use the tool at www.dishpointer.com; type in your address and the satellite you want; you can drag the cursor to the spot you plan to locate your dish (assuming a UK address).

thanks for your help
, otherwise i would have been still in confusion .I live in the indian ocean, mauritius island. below the Equator. So the steps should be like this if i have correctly understood : 1. I face myself towards the north, 2. turn dish 13 degrees east on (my right hand side) 3. turn on the box, set the frequencies ,then i should get channels from hotbird. |

Alas, no.
Because you're at 57E, you'll need to point the dish to your left (a very crude first approximation would be (57-13) ie 44 degrees - but this doesn't take account of the latitude and so forth). One positioning tool I have suggests azimuth 294.4 elevation 42.2 for this satellite (left 65 degrees?) - I don't trust this (think it wasn't set up to do the southern hemisphere)

Try this calculator is seems to give a reasonable answer:-
http://www.satlex.de/en/azel_calc.html Although the angle it gives for a motor is from south, which is wrong, but take it away from 180, gives something in the region of 52 degrees to your left(west) of your North. |
