Default Ex cable, newbie to satellite. Few Qs..

Been reading a lot of the newbie info already and have an idea about whats involved etc but got a few questions.
I am currently on cable but want to switch to a Satellite system without losing any of the channels and maybe gaining a few extra ones in the process
However I'm on a fairly tight budget so would probably be looking at a fixed satellite dish set up.
I'm not bothered about 'on demand' content, HD, foreign TV or PVR/HD receivers, just want all the various channels you could get on cable on a premium package for example.
Is this possible with a fixed set up?

Thanks.

lol, ok I could have worded it better. I mean I am after a non subscription based set up. I understand that this means I can forget about any Sly channels but just want the usual FTA plus a few extra channels. I did say I was a newbie! Its a little unclear exactly what you can get with fixed and motorised set ups.

You would be better off looking at a motorized set up, which can be bought quite cheaply, as a fixed dish will limit your options too much for any decent viewing.
Work out where your nearest due South satellite would be, usually 1 degree west, and the decide whether you can have a ground based dish or if it needs to be wall mounted.
If you face your s*y dish, and swing 29 degrees to your left you will be close to due south.

You will realise that there is much more available through Sat once you stop thinking S*y.

I've seen some (Technomate) satellite kits on ebay for about £180 that include everything needed to get going motorised dish the lot, are they a good deal?

Not terrible, but ask Southernsatellite if he can do it cheaper, he sometimes has offers.
