Red face TV picture format

Hi all, this is my first posting on here but I have found the site a really useful point of reference over the last few months....keep up the good work!!

Just lately I'm getting a black (top & bottom) border on certain channels when watching through my Max blue box, all okay when watching through TV & DVD. I've even set the picture format in "Config" to letter box as when it's set to full screen when I come out of the Menu it stays full screen for a couple of seconds then pops to a really narrow box.

Are there other settings for picture format anywhere within the box settings or is it likely there's another explanation (DVD/TV issue)?

Do u have the latest software on ur blue box? the newest software now supports widescreen u should only get black bars at the top and bottom of ur screen if u have ur box set to letter box while watchin a channel that broadcasts in Widescreen. Go to menu then conifg and go down to system information and take note of what it says for S/W ver:.

No, I haven't updated yet; waiting for a cable to do it principally so I don't need to constantly update the codes!!

S/W Ver on my set says "1.0 SSC4 Oct 20 2006"...I take it this is an old version and when I get round to updating this will change; hopefully the picture aspect will be better as you say?

Thanks for the reply!!

Ive always found that its the TV set settings that decide how you see the picture, can you not alter the settings in the menu for your TV?

That's what I thought too...but I haven't had any cause to change settings on the TV only the box! Certain channels through the Eurovox are still full screen (even in letter box setting), so I wondered whether the TV was detecting a 4:3/16:9 setting on certain channels from the E'vox??

It's a mystery, but hopefully the impending update may give me more options?

you will find when you do the update, and you have true widescreen in the menu instead of letterbox that your black lines will go away on 98% of channels..it seems to be the movies what still have them..im asssuming this is because there broadcast in a different aspect ratio..but the update will be good for you...aswelll as fixing the code issues
