Folks,
Just pondering about the dvb-c scene. At Some point I will get a card. From all accounts there are two options, the hard mod and soft mod. The hard Mod makes use of the cards again, which is easy enough to understand and do. I'm more intreseted in the soft mod. My first question would be having owned various Pace boxes and now I've moved on to a linux box, why can't the the cards have an image to autoupdate with the keys or is this possible now? Do you have to manually update keys? This wouldn't be a big problem but why can't you just get the pc to emulate like a dreambox or ITgate and autoupdate? They dont require you to have cards. Second question, Would it not be easier to have a general program in which users can select their setuop and area i.e transponder 6982 5887 etc and then if necessary brute force, for many users it all seems quite confusing. Third question, Alot of people seem to have the technotrend brand? Is this the best option to go for? |

On the question of auto update.. not a clue.. i'm sure someone else can answer that for you.. on the software side of things. i think you'll find :
a) no one here actually writes the software b) most of the programs are made for overseas and do in fact offer this function for the intended countries. The laws in the UK are different regarding cable facilities and attaching unauthorsied kit to the network. I'm pretty sure this is why there is no software like you are mentioning.. The transponder files are very easy to customise with a bit of "find / replace" in notepad to get them in the right format anyway... |

You mention cards, think you mean DVBc card for pc, afaik dreambox d-box etc use an operating system (linux) with memory (to store images) these images are a linux os wrote to receive and output a tv signal. The boxes use a softcam (to emulate a smartcard as used in cc boxes) eg, evocamd, etc etc these reads the keys and decode them. It also reads ECMs (which are the keychanges) and AU, so if the cc change the commands (ECMs) like in April the box goes off until it can understand the commands (updated images). DVB pc cards don’t have an OS so your pc does this with softcams and as danmed says these are mainly written for satellite and non uk encryption systems, which are adapted to work in uk but no longer AU as no one has written one specifically for uk cable, so until someone adapts one, no AU. Until someone writes such a programme your stuck with the current method. The technotrends are the easiest/cheapest to get hold of especially their budget range, so depends what you want/pay. |
