Default No subscription?

I have a (stupid?) question.

I do not know anything about satellite TV so here we go:

I know there are hundreds of free channels and if I want to see them without paying a subscription all I need is a dish and a receiver right?

Are there available for sale (without a subscription?)

Thanks/Regards

What you are talking about is European channels, that broadcast in certain encryptions that have been compromised. Such as a German package of channels on Astra 1 that show films, sport and xxx stuff that are available on certain receivers with a piece of software that emulates the encryption. Obviously the broadcaster is always looking at ways to stop this and in this case is changing to a secure encryption the same that Sky uses at the end of this year.

By relying soley on emulator s/w you might end up with something one day and nothing the next! So the best course of action is to buy a receiver and motorised dish with the option of buying an official subscription card like the DigitALB card that will give you guaranteed access to a certain number of channels over the year.

Alternative to all this is too stick with a Sky subscription!

If the persoin is asking about getting free to air Euro channels, these of course are not scrambled or encrypted.

Get a FTA at Lidl with a dish, or go to the likes of FTA equipment on sale on techwatch, these chanels are free just like BBC & ITV on Astra 28, You
do not need to subscribe to Sky at all to watch them, buy the FTA box on the subs saved on Sky.

I bought a comag silverstar from Lidl, new they are £35, 90cm dish new £14.99, bought a motor from a german web based dealer £35. Now I have the choice of all the FTA satellite programmes from Hispasat to Turksat with many satellites in between, thousands of them, many in English Lang. AND NO YOU DO NOT NEED TO SUB.

Hope this helps

Bob

Unfortunately this site only really looks at European stuff so i have no idea how much help anyone here could be

On a brighter note though Dish TV in the USA use Nagravision 2 encryption on some broadcasts. Nagra2 has more holes in it than a pair of fishnets so more than likely there will be a patch out there on certain receivers

It might be an idea to check out some of the forums that cover the USA and Canada for more info.
