Default Freesat Abroad

Hi, I'm in Oslo and went and got myself a Freesat receiver to get the Free to Air channels. Set it all up with the 1m dish I have and (eventually) found Astra 2 and hooked up to Freesat.

Only problem is that most of the channels are missing. Can't get BBC1, 2, ITV or Channel 4 (which is the only reason I did this in the first place)

I get over 90% signal strength and about 85% signal quality and the network ID is correct for Freesat (003b) so I know I'm pointing at the correct satellite so everything seems OK.

I've been trying to find a reason why I'm not getting the main channels, do I need a bigger dish?

Some footprint maps on the net show I need a 1.2m dish whereas other say I only need a 90cm dish (one shop I contacted suggested a 1.5m dish)

Would the dish size affect which channels I get even though I get good signal strength and quality according to the receiver (which is the Grundig freesat receiver)

Yes, dish size is importantant. You need to be able to get reception from Astra 2D, which is tightly focussed on the UK.

Not sure what the minimum size is for Oslo.

EDIT,

Just read a thread here:-

Looks like your 1m won't cut it, a 1.8m Channel Master will do it for sure.

Maybe a 1.5m.

Thanks for that, went through the forum you linked to. Looks like a bigger dish then from all the correspondance, the guy with the 1.8m is less than an hour's drive west from where I am so looks like that's what I need.

It is also important to have the matched feedhorn and a good fringe reception LNB.
