I just thought I'd check this fibre-op thing out, and according to the postcode checker, we're on a fibre-op link, but as far as I know, we're still on the old Coax installed by Nynex some years ago (think early to mid 90's!!!)!!! So where is the Fibre-optic cable? Does it go to the green boxes? Does it go to the headend?? Does it go to whatever supplies the headends??? Where is it?!?!?
![]() Oh, how fast can an Ambit 120 go? Just curious as that's the Legit modem model we have here (I have a 200 hidden away somewhere, but I mutilated the PSU for something else)...

The fibre optic cable goes to the green boxes in the street i think from the headend.. Ive seen them rolling out in the street. Then they just have COAX cables running from the greenbox to ur property.

Well they technically are cos its coming from there end via fibreoptic.
There just branching it out once it gets to the greenbox with COAX. If they were going to do it all with fibreoptic then numourous things would add up. 1. Its expensive. 2. Equipment would have to be changed, such as settop boxes and cable modems having a fibre optic tuner and connectors. 3. You wouldnt be able to bend the cables in tight places as the glass fibres would snap. COAX i think is not that bad as they are able to transfer at least 100mb broadband which their trialing somewhere in Britain. |

lol. Yeah i no what you mean. But I rarely think they'l put FibreOptic cables into the housing premises since they would have to change all the previous equipment. Too expensive.
But yeah i do no what you mean. They should just say that its partially delivered to your front door using Fibre Optic. Hmmm imagine if it was all done through Fibre Optic, Better uptime (most likely) way faster speeds (Being its the speed of light as they say) You never no, they could implement it more into there system, doubtful though. |
