Hi folks, first time poster here but I've been watching this forum closely over the past week or so in an attempt to help solve some weird issues I'm experiencing with my recently purchased Ex5000 PVR....but with limited success
![]() Following the (excellent) guides on here when I received the box I started by flashing the firmware to the latest available (v1.1) from the toolbar. I then hooked the box up to the (ex TW) feed (into RF IN) and kicked off a powerscan (on 6952). The box picked up some TP's and then started looking for the channels....it immediatley found an initial batch of about 8-10 channels but then proceeded to repeatedly add the same group of channels over and over!? It appeard to just be getting the same group of channels from each TP! So once it finished I was left with a large channel list that consisted of multiple entries for the same 8 or so channels. I've tried scanning on different symbol rates and also using different "step" values (6/7/8) but with no success (does not find any TP's/channels). I've also tried importing 2 different CDF files for my area (Edinburgh) from the sticky post in this forum but I simply get "Bad or no signal" when I try to view any of the channels after I do this. I've also tried taking the box to my folks place to try and eliminate my cabling from the equasion. They have an active sub on the base VM TV package and are just round the corner from my house, but I get the same problem there - lots of TP's are found but only a handfull of channels are added (and then repeated!). I'm starting to pull my hair out on this one! I'm wondering if the box is faulty but not sure as the limited channels I can get are working fine. Do any of you kind chaps have an idea of what I can try next? Thanks |

I would do a factory reset then reinstall the sw i would then select the fast install option in the user setup and select ok without altering anything also make sure cable is connected in the rf cable in socket i would also try connecting the cable in to the rf out just incase the tuner is wrong way around. If the results are same as befor i would try scanning from the direct fead into the house without any splitters in line. if all this failed i would then contact my supplier explaining everthing that i had tried with a view to replacing the box. you could also if you kno anyone with a box try there box at your location. |

I would import the cdf then do a delete all channels, followed by update channels. Make sure you remove all splitters and other devices from the feed first to get the best signal possible.

UPDATE: I tried a few things tonight. Firstly I did a factory reset and flashed the box with the latest v1.1a firmware. In checking the system info page this appeared to take ok with no problems.
I then uploaded a local CDF file and as instructed deleted all the channels before running "update channels". Unfortunately exactly the same thing happened again. It started picking up the channels about half way through the scan but it was the same 8 channels again....and they again just started repeating. However, I've now noticed looking at the TP list it seems I am only getting a decent signal (82% in green) on just under half of the TP's listed (on 13 out of 34). The others are fluctuating between 10 to 30% (in red). I take it this might explain my problems? If so I'll be heading into the attic to take a further look at the cabling to see what I can do. I'm also thinking about getting my folks VM box and trying it on my feed to see what the results are. Thanks for your help so far guys.

I'm beginning to think this is a bit of a weird one that might not have been seen before....which is leading me to think it might be more of a fault with the box...hmmm. I'll be trying a direct cable from the box in the attic tonight along with a proper VM box and card set-up in my location. cheers. |
