I want to have the facility to view Sky channels in several rooms. I currently have Sky (not + or HD) viewed from 2 boxes, each one in a downstairs room. We’re about to have a full rewire of the house, but the electrician wants me to get in an engineer to run the necessary cables etc to other rooms. Our budget is very tight, so I’m willing to try and do the job myself. Is it feasible?
As a newbie, I’m assuming that as long as I get the correct type of cable and fit it into the right sort of wall socket, I can move the spare Sky box to whichever room and plug it in. I’ve seen some RG6 Satellite Coax Cable, which is described as ‘High quality 75ohm Coaxial Cable with 4.7mm foam dielectric and 1mm centre conductor. 64 x 0.12mm copper braiding with aluminium foil shielding’. Would this do the job? Also, what type of sockets would I need to fix to the wall and how would I ‘split’ the cable to send it to different rooms? I emphasise that I’m not splitting the signal from the box – it’ll be moved around as required and plugged in. Or am I hoping to do something which can’t be done? |

Hi, you cannot split the satellite cable.
The most convenient and yet still simple way to do it would be to get a quad or an Octo LNB ( depending on how many rooms you want to run to), then just run a feed to each room. If you want to save a bit of money on wall sockets and still have a good signal, you could use female to female f couplers and white blanking plates with a hole drilled in the middle. The cable you mention probaly would do the job, but wf100 is better, as it has the copper foil. A 100m reel is approx £30-£40. Or Screwfix and TLC direct do the PF100 which is equivalent for about £31. Robbo ![]() |

A quad LNB has 4 outputs for 4 receivers.
An Octo LNB has 8 outputs for 8 receivers. Oh, and a twin LNB, you've guessed it, has 2 outputs for 2 receivers. Just plug them in, and off you go ![]() ![]() |
