To find device manager:
Click START & then right click on COMPUTER > select PROPERTIES > select HARDWARE > Select DEVICE MANAGER What i have to do in device manager to get my PC to read the box: Have your usb rs323 & cable connected Go into device manager & expand PORTS Right click usb to serial port & select DISABLE Right click again & select PROPERTIES PORT SETTINGS > ADVANCED Change Com-port number to 4 & then OK,OK again. Again Right click on usb to serial port & select ENABLE (Something about disabling & enableing the port means you dont have to reboot after changing any settings) Try to see if your laptop can read the box now Hopefully i got that right gl |

I've just gone through this problem as well...two things. 1. get another lead/adapter to connect with and re-try it, as above 2. make sure the driver for the USB is com 1 and force it to work as above mentioned.
I tried all other com ports and didn't work except for com 1 but my original USB/serial must have been faulty as well as when i tried an adapter it worked straight away once i changed to com 1. |

dave what you could do which was recomended to me by stevenpc (A big thanks) is to find out if anyone you know has a older PC which has a serial port. The older PC worked a treat for me without any problems at all, them usb/serial adapters can be a pain in the arse from what i discovered after allot of fkin around.
