Default Thinking of Buying an Already Modded 250/250 Modem

Hi Everyone, first of all really decent forum, seems everyone is really friendly.

I've been reading the topics for a few days now and I'm just going to ask a few questions, sorry if they have been asked loads of times before I can understand how annoying it is but I have tried searching but there is so much inforumation with terms I don't understand and can be at times be a bit confusing

Sorry if it seems an essay too

Basically I was connected to VM and decided to cancel the package I had which included broadband as I was off work with sickness for a while after being in hospital. I'm ok now but I've decided to look into getting a modded cable modem as a neighbour has one already, his computer is broke right now and said I can test his for a few days which I have done and works an absolute treat with full 20mb speeds. All I did with his is plug it in which i found very suprising.

He's offered to get me one but says it will cost 70 pounds. I've decided to try and get one myself and after looking on the net for modems and advice etc I have got to the point now were I'm looking for advice I can't find.

Looking on ebay I have found what looks like a decent seller which when i searched as a featured product and great feedback with the description:

NTL / VIRGIN AMBIT 250 255 CABLE MODEM FLASHED INFINITE
CHEAPEST ON EBAY, 20MB, FULL INSTRUCTIONS, MSN SUPPORT

He says there will be no instructions but no mac address which I can understand and I know I'm not allowed to ask for on here but I'm looking to buy it Friday and would like to know roughly (not in great detail as I'm sure you have plenty of other things to do) in order what I'm expected to do. All I've managed to to is get my UBR from a site posted on another thread. Manc I think it is. (I live in the NW)

Any help would be truly appreciated as I'm a bit lost right now!

Again sorry for the essay!

Your need DCHP m8 & other programs to get mac working! but it's simple enough....The fellow your on about on e-bay I already have 4 modems off him & he will provide software & msn support.........Basically run DCHP for 8 days solid & once done I change mids to Bundles which seems to work fine at 20mg
