technomate 6900 combo

bought a dish,motor,lnb today. retailer told me that this pvr can only record (via usb) the same channel that you are watching. Now I know I'm a complete novice but this receiver has twin tuners as does the sky plus box on which i can record a different channel to the one I'm watching. I know that the sky box takes two cables to give this facility. So, why does the 6900 have two tuners? What very basic point am I missing. I bought the pvr believing that it would record two different channels. What is the second tuner for?
Please clear this up for me. Otherwise do I have to use the old sky+ hd box to watch FTA whilst recording something else on the 6900 - and how do i link the two receivers to the one tv?

Tuners are DVB-S / DVB-S2 Satellite & DVB-T Terrestrial tuner

Even though the receiver has two tuners as far as I know, it can only use one of them at a time, so you can't record from one whilst watching another. As far as I'm concerned, this is a bit sh!te really, but I'l still probaly get one anyway.

It would be interesting to read what technomate has to say. When I researched this machine as well as the topfield and humax i obviously associated TWO tuners with an ability to do what shy+ does. Still, I'll have to fathom out how to watch real time progs on sky and record something else on the 6900 using the one tv. I'll leave the sky set up in situ and set up the motorised 6900.
