Hi all,
I have flashed my Sagem (1x) with multiple images! I have no problems flashing using IFA and all images flash OK. I am having strange problems though (and they appear to be the same irrespective of the image used). I am currently using the Andromeda Sagem Fix image (but these problems happen with any image). Quite often the system will freeze. Whatever channel is currently selected will carry on playing as normal but the box won't respond to any remote signals. The only way around this is to power cycle it. In fact, I have had to power cycle so much that I have installed a remote controlled power socket (£6 from Maplin) !!! Sometimes when power-cycled, the box boots fine, sometimes it boots without channels and needs a re-scan and sometimes it crashes at the loader screen. These "freezes" happen quite often whilst playing with the menus (Bouquet editor for example). Sometimes it takes 5 or 6 reboots for the box to actually work! I can ping the box and FTP to it quite happily and when it DOES work it works superbly! EDIT: Forgot to mention, when I got the box it was dead - There were a couple of dry joints on the PSU board and the track had split from the board under one of the transformer legs - easily fixed with a soldering iron! Any ideas please folks? Last edited by sjnw2003; 03-08-08 at 03:34 PM. |

umm overheating maybe?
i use a fan on mine to keep the heat build up too a minmum..... leave the cover off and check the temp of the tuner itself. it may be getting hot and failing. but saying that id say a motherboard problem... not sure what. sell it on ebay and buy another from a good german source,, check feedback. other than that id like to flash it and test it myself with an image i have modified to auto update and be stable even on problem boxes. regards dave |

Changed my mind on the overheating idea Dave
I think it IS overheating. I have removed the modem and the card readers and left the case off and it seems to be pretty stable (using an old Commando image). Only trouble is now, for some reason, the LCD has decided not to work - The backlight works but there is nothing on the display (not even on boot). The cables are in securely and clean. Any ideas? Can you mail me a copy of the stable image you talked about please?

Just to update : I have been playing with the box all day. The LCD has decided to work again !!!!
I have removed the modem and the card readers. I have taken the back panel and the top case off the box for maximum airflow! When I turn the box on from cold it will work perfectly for about 5 minutes. After that, the channel will still be displaying perfectly and you can watch it quite happily but the box will not respond to any remote commands (or front panel commands). The IR light flashes on the box when you use the remote but it just doesn't respond - It just keeps on showing whatever programmes are on TV! The chip on the tuner board is getting very hot but if that was the fault I would have thought that the box wouldn't display the programme! Any ideas folks... please..... |

If they had blown, surely it wouldn't work at all? It works fine until it heats up. |
