and what does usals do
USALS is software that can calculate the satellites position to 0.2º based upon a reference which will be your own Longitude & Latitude which you input to the receiver. USALS will work as long as your receiver and motor support, USALS, DiSEqC 1.3 & Goto x.x

No, you won't have a line of site problem with that, you have not given the house height, but assume it is 4m worse case. Then the height diff beween the dish and tree is only 3m, with it being 14m away, this gives a min sat elev of 12º.

On a motorized dish you generally have the cable pointing straight down on the satellite which is closest to due south, which 1W probably is.
It is just a case of gentle manipulation of the dish until you get the strongest signal.

Before you start thinking of buying different items, firstly you need to make sure that the dish is accurately aligned to 16E.

The first thing to try is adjusting the position of 16E on the receiver. On the TM you should be able to change 16ºE to another angle say 15.5E, move it in 0.1º increments and see if you can get a better signal.

On a motorised dish, you DON'T adjust the SKEW, leave it at zero, the whole dish together with the LNB gets skewed instead, as the dish moves round.

everything is slowly becoming clearer now
if i select transponder 11499 which i believe has most of the sport on it i can achieve a signal of 67% by fine moving the motor, does this mean i should move back to thor and try to improve my signal with a sat finder meter.
