Default Whats the basics?

After finding these forums today, I have spent a few hours reading threads trying to understand how things work but the information is certainly overwelming! Im starting to pick up bits and bats but can anyone help me a little with a few questions and/or link a few threads that may help. Ok so 'Lenny' at the pub offers me a chipped cable box for £100 and £10 to get the card codes put back on if and when they are scrambled. I was looking at the Eurovox V model which works throughout the whole of the UK. Firstly (taking out cost over time) what differences is there from buying the Eurovox over 'lennys' old chipped cable box? Can I get more channels on top of sky spo, mov etc?
I buy the Eurovox V so I now need to use the 'bigmaq toolbar' and download the latest codes to program the 'funcard' using something like the infinity usb programmer software and a usb card readed. After this, I can put the card in the Eurovox and it will work. Is this the general idea of how it works? Any help appreciated, as Im starting to think 'Lenny' is an easy option. :s Thanks.

Hi Tommy75, You may have more luck with your questions if you put this post in the cable section (scroll a bit further down the front page ) as at the moment you have posted it in the satellite section.
Perhaps one of the mods will move it for you
good luck getting answers for your questions, im sure you will have them in no time

If you buy a eurovox they dont need a card, you just flash with latest firmware from our downloads section, they should then autoupdate, if and when they go down you just reupdate with new flash, which is usually produced within a couple of days, there is usually a temporary quick fix by entering latest keys till the new flash comes out, please dont ask for keys on this site by the way, just search and you will find where to get them.
The new eurovox 5000 has pvr function, the picture quality is good although you need a good signal, the epg is not as good as on the modded card boxes, see lincsats nick nack shop in classiffied section for a good deal.

Thanks for your reply reddiesel. I see so the keys are just covers for when the firmware has stopped working. I understand how to get the keys and how to imput them cheers. So the eurovox ex5000 is recommended over the max v 2008? I will have a look in lincsats shop, I saw it yesterday briefly.
I will need something to connect the eurovox to the pc to flash it and software? I will have another look through the threads to become a bit more aquainted tonight. Thanks again.

You just need a null modem cable, hopefully you have a rs232 com port on your pc.
The kryptview arnet is another box a lot of the lads recommend, has a better epg, might be worth having a look at.

kk, I don't have an rs232 com port on my pc. A usb to rs232 adapter would be fine wouldn't it? And then the null modem to flash. Ah just found a thread on it.
