The 7000/7020 series are the best and most versatile. Very little difference between them, the 7020 has a little more internal memory, and has an rf modulator fitted which is useful if you want to distribute the tv pics via an rf distribution system.

You can also multiboot with these receivers, and they have shed loads of images (firmware) for them.

The 7025 series has twin tuners but isnt as well supported as the 70x0 series.

The 500/600's are cheap and cheerful, restricted in what they can do but good playthings.

If you want HDTV you need the 8000 (Not released yet) VERY expensive and support levels are unknown atm.

By the way the baby dream model 800 is available for HD but well over priced at £300++ another good stb for HD is the kathrein 910

I have the 800HD. It is over £350. It does overheat but runs very cool with a laptop cooler running beneath it (about £15 depending on model). Its got some good images (esp the LT image) and you can set up recording to a remote hard disk if you have a network (like other dreamboxes).

If you don't want the HD I would get the 600PVR. I have also use the 7000 (but I don't think they make them any more).

With the 800HD now on the market, there are a few 7000 and 7020 boxes being sold. As a start, I would recommend a 7000 at as low a price as you can get especially if you dont have a HD display option. Whilst the 7000 is no longer made, there is a great deal of support and it does all the SD things you could want.

By all means buy from the seller above, but i'll tell you now you won't be getting a Genuine Dreambox

They are not approved Dream Multimedia retailers

You will be buying a cheap Chinese copy which will probably breakdown after a few months

You have been warned

I understand what your saying but aren't they good just to learn the workings of a Dreambox before buying the real thing?

You wont learn anything more than, you wish you had gone for a better model and not wasted money on the way.

The Eagle, 500s and 600s are basic boxes that will get you a picture but the Dreambox is a lot more than that.

I bought a 7000s nearly 5 years ago and have never felt the need to get another box. The only reason I would have to get another Dreambox would be to get HD transmissions. When the 800 has most of the bugs corrected, I will probably consider that and relegate the 7000 to the bedroom.
