Had a problem getting into Techwatch tonight. Using wife's laptop I googled the site, Clicked on main heading and got all these pop up's saying '' your computer has been infected, virus warning '' etc. Closing internet explorer got rid of them. Tried again. Ditto. Tried other sites with no problem. Then i discovered if I used one of the subtitles Forums or Eurovox there was no problem. Have seen this before with trojan's but usually effects everything not just one site. Anyone else come across this or ....?

As a temporary measure, anyone wishing to access this site should go to the homepage at www.techwatch.co.uk and navigate from one of the on-site links. Links to news items found in Google have been maliciously redirected by a third party.

All Techwatch content is safe. There are no nasties here, but it will take a while to resolve the malicious links found when Googling.

The Google links will be correctly re-indexed as soon as Googlbot gets around to it. This should only take a day or two.

Sincere apologies for that - some bloody Russian hacker tried to hack into the news section at the front end of the site - they weren't able to get at any data, but they were able to set up a malicious redirect. I removed the main hack pretty quickly, but overlooked a malicious redirect working on the news stories which is now removed.

I've also locked down the potential security hole so this shouldn't happen again.

So far as I can tell, it was only working on the news items, not the forums, but I'm pretty livid about this overall. If someone from the UK had done this, I would absolutely crush them for this. But it was a bloody lawless Russian internet user.

Overall, everything is clean now and everyone should be quite safe.

Thanks brian. I didn't realise that there was a secondary attack. Glad it's all sorted.

Hopefully no more of that.

I am well pssed off about this, but luckily no damage was done - but it's an important lesson learned, and will probably help prevent more serious hack attempts in future.
