Is it possible to extend the remote from something like an infra-red eye like LED thing with a cable running through a cabinet door to a Eurovox EX5000 without spending silly money? The box is literally a foot away from the TV...

you could solder some wire from points and sensor m8 ift should be ok but i have not tryed that far but have sucessfully did it on a 2006 box but it was only about half a ft if it was that far
