Default Minimum Requirements for BBC HD

Hello All,

I'm currently in the process of building a cheap PVR with Blu Ray, for less than the price of a Blu Ray player!

I'm currently eyeing up the AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ (Dual 2.6Ghz)

Do you think this would be good enough to decode BBC HD on a Vista Media Centre, and can Vista do HD satellite broadcasts? I know it can do DVB-S with a bit of jiggery pokery, so I presume this is the same.

Also, is there a specific graphics card, satellite tuner or motherboard I should be getting, with some sort of on board decoder, so that the CPU doesn't have to do all the hard work?

Also, while I think of it, what would the aforementioned CPU be like at PVR functions when handling HD? I can always upgrade the CPU at a later date, because there isn't a great deal of use for it in the system at the moment, seeing as I'm only going to have this thing connected to 28Deg.

Thanks,

Gav

Default Re: Minimum Requirements for BBC HD

Right. I've bought an AMD X2 4400+ & an abit AN-M2HD Motherboard (second hand, both for £30, bargain!).

The processor is dual 2.3Ghz, however it's the integrated graphics on the motherboard that interests me:
Quote:
Graphics Integrated GeForce7 Series Shader model 3.0 DirectX9 graphics
Programmable PureVideo HD Video Processor
HDMI Integrated TMDS interface with HDCP key
This leads me to believe it has some sort of on-board encoder/decoder, that could be used for HD stuff.

If I were to purchase another SkyStar 2 card (sold my last one!) - do you think this system would be up to playing back (not recording) BBC HD with the Vista TV Pack?
