Question Surround sound on sony system

Hello all..

Wondering if anyone can offer up any help?

I'm using an Sony DAV DZ230 home theatre system, linked by HDMi cable to a sony Bravia KDL 40W2000TV.

The theatre system plays DVDs in surround sound, but does not play the TV channels in surround sound even when you manual select the function to do so.

(If I connect the systems up by a scart lead it does play the TV sound in surround)

I also have apple TV linked to the TV via another HDMi cable. This again plays fine and displays movies, photos and musics I have sync'd or stream from my PC / on line.

However I can't play the apple TV sounds through the home theatre system.

If i've connect the home theatre system and TV by Scart lead then the surround sound will be playing the TV channel last selected even though the TV will be playing sound from the apple TV media through the TV speakers

Advice would be much apprciated!

Default Re: Surround sound on sony system

I have a pioneer 7:1 surround amp and everything I own is hooked up to it,but I must be honest there are so many connections and menu options you only need to miss one little thing and you can be stumped for days.I find that its very rare I watch terrestial tv and then only via freeveiw,as the picture and sound quality from the box or from my satellite is better and a lot of channels on there are broadcast in surround sound.
Have you tried the component route,I have a upscaling freeveiw box hooked up via component and seperate optical audio and to be honest the quality is excellent.
