Default pace 4001 problem

friend has the above box , was working fine until tues , now all it does when u power it up is go , pace , tune , nit , then it reboots and goes through it again and again , left the box on overnight and still doin the same , never come across this problem before , have tried holding the up/down buttons to try to get it to boot and to try to get to the eng menu but still does the same , anyone any ideas on wat may be causing it or how to resolve it , or is the box just stuck in a update loop or is it goosed

thats correct, could be some of the resistors or caps or going as well, 4001 is a very old box.

tried a few diff sims in the box and still did the same , tried a couple of cims in it still did the same , pulled the red jumper and replaced it , booted box up got into the em , net id was just showing ***** , so done a fun net id card , booted box up , went into the em , popped net id card in , box rebooted and came up with the please wait updating screen , unplugged box , took card out , booted box back up , now cant get back into the em to see if the net id is ok , if leave the box on it just stays on tune

the piece that is standing upright at the back of the pic is the sim

You could try another Cim ( cable interface module) Some people call it the tuner but its not, its more likely to be that than the simm card.
