Hi, i am completely new to this so if the answer to some of my questios are easy to find i apologise. I am looking to buy a Eurovox ex5000 pvr (inc a SEAGATE 120GB hard drive) and need to know.
1. How easy is the process of getting channels like sky sports on the box? 2. Do i have to constantly update the software to keep the channels or once the channels are there on the box do they stay? 3. I have 2 ntl boxes (and pay for the 2nd around £6 a month) one upstairs and one down if i buy 2 eurvox boxes will the signal suffer compared to if i just had 1 eurovox? if the signal is poor is this a good product ? 4. I am going to keep the basic cable package, is this a good measure to make sure you cannot get caught? or is there no risk of getting caught? 5. regarding pay-per view. does it work just like cable? meaning i could pick and choose a movie to watch using on demand? 6. I have read that you have to use your computer and the rp90? (may be wrong letters) port to download applications for the box. my computer is less 18 months old and a good one, will it have this port? 7. is the hard drive easy to remove and insert back into the eurovox? 8. is the eurvox ex5000 pvr the best box on the market for cable and if not could someone tell me which is? Also is mycablebox.co.uk a good site to buy from? 9. lastly are eurovox boxes 100% REAL I.E. NOT CLONED? Thanks. |

The Eurovox is a good box and easy to use, it's easy to get the channels and the box does not need regular updates once the latest firmware is on the box.
Some sellers may sell clones, I can't vouch for anyone else, but mine are guaranteed to be 100% genuine

1. Easy - push about 5 buttons and leave it to scan.
2. You only update when new software is out - usually when there are problems, I have updated twice in the last year. 3. I have 2 subbed boxes and 2 Eurovox's without any problems, but I don't know if this is because I'm right next to the cabinet so have a very strong signal? 4. There is no risk of getting caught as there is no talk back on the box. The only way they could catch you is if they found noise on the line, but if you were subscribed to TV or Internet, they wouldn't know any different. 5. There is no "on demand", although you get Sly Movie channels and PPV live events. 6. You update using a serial (sometimes called RS232, or DB9) port and null modem lead (which usually comes shipped with the box). Most desktop computers have this port. 7. The hard drive is very easy to install and remove... although I cant see why you would want to do this. 8. It has its pros and cons, like any other box. For you this is probably a good box to start with. 9. I've not seen a cloned PVR as of yet. They are relatively new. |

Thanks for your reply. can you please clear something up for me? You say there is no on demand so i will get every channel available on cable ,but no music, catch up tv on demand etc? Also when you say ppv, on normal cable the channel 0 is for pay-per view like boxing etc will i get whatever is on that channel? Also is there any product available to boost the signal if my picture is poor due to 2 boxes? Thanks.

I just did it and the process is easy.
However you use a unified loader. This is a program that contains the new software - so you don't have to load a separate file - an improvement. I found this unified loader not so well written. I almost stopped the update in midflow because it wasn't clear it was still writting. |

You dont get catch up TV or music on demand on the Eurovox. You do get MTV and the others advertised on the cable companies website channel listing. As for pay per view, there are about 20 channels and when there is a big event on say Sly Box Office it will be on the Vox you just have to see which one it is on. You also get BBC interactive channels (you dont get the press red for interactive services, its just the different camera angles). As terry999 said updating it is very easy. The box should come with instructions... if not, come back.

No - which is annoying. Mine are just in alphabetical order as the firmware has an auto-sort. You can change them around and set up favourites, but I've not bothered.
