Cable Modem into Wireless Router anyone?

Right virgin media installed me a new cable internet connection with a modem.

I have a PS3 and want to connect wirelessly. I have a wireless Router which ive had from a previous internet company.

Ive tried using an ether net cable from the virgin modem, into the Lan2 port on the router, then Lan1 into the pc.

Anyway my PS3 see's the router wirelessly but wont connect to the internet, it comes up with Dns Error.

Would that be down to the wireless router not being compatable with the cable modem?

Any advice please

Just for reference, then Cable Modem is an Ambit 256, and the Wireless Router is a Echolife Hg520s.

is that router a cable router . i use net gear.

if it is a cable router, it should have its own cable ethernet port. post the make n model no on ere more info needed
