Default Chipped Box Blown :-( Can someone help please

Hey Guys

I've had a chipped NTL Pace box for years, a friend of my uncles set it up for me. Got back from holiday saturday and the box has blown. It wont switch on and when the power cords in it makes a very strange sound. Not good at all

Now i'm guessing that the chipped card i have is still ok and that all i need is a new box. So my question is how easy is it to get a new box and have my current card work in it?

I have also recently purchased a new HD television, is it possible to buy a HD box and used my chipped card in this?

Any help would be hugely appreciated

Thanks

it will probably be the power supply if you open it see if the cappacitors have any black stuff coming out of them. this happens with samsung boxs quiet often.

Ok I've checked with my dad and he says that the power is on but there is just a black screen

He's opened it up and there is no black stuff inside.

Thanks

Are there any numbers and letters on the front panel when you connect the power?

i plug the mains cable in and i get a loud hissing sound for around 3 minutes, during this time the front panel is blank

Then the front panel starts to flash randomly......looks like it could be trying to spell out PACE

This goes on for a short while longer until the two "standby" dots appear

The nothing, i cant turn the machine on, eiter by the handset or by the box itself......

Sometimes it turns on and i get a message saying there is a fault........but while this message is on the screen the front panel of the box still shows nothing but the standby dot

Definately sounds like the power supply like rawsy said, look at the metal baked bean cans looking things are the tops swollen or domed, they should be flat or slightly concave, if so replace, the values are on the sides.
Can you see where the hissing sound is coming from ?
Otherwise if you decide to get another box have a read through the forum on eurovox etc as well as standard card type boxes.
