Time and time, again,it is repeated that the mount for a motorised dish has to be plumb, for it to track the arc perfectly.
Implying it has to be vertically correct. However, can you still track the arc correctly,if the dish mount is mounted(temporarily) on uneven ground e.g a lawn? Would be grateful, for an definitive answer,so I don't want to spend fruitless time, trying to set it up,especially as it will the first attempt at setting up a motorised dish, and yes I've read and re-read the motorished dish set FAQ,many times. Thanks guys and gals. Last edited by SAT-WORLD; 19-08-08 at 11:25 PM. |

Yes, you can set it up on uneven/sloping ground whatever, BUT the pole must be vertical for it to track the arc. Time spent getting the pole perfect, is time well spent, it is relatively easy after that.
Having said that, on a wonky pole, you might get 2 or 3 sats maybe more if you are lucky.

Yep; that is exactly what I have at the moment in terms of motorised dish i.e. apart from my multi-LNB set up.
You should be able to find a picture of it in the Pictures Gallery. It is on slightly uneven ground and is not 100% plumb; maybe 95-97%, yet it tracks the arc quite well (though limited line of sight means only 31w-5e which is about 13 satellites). In fairness you get the odd difficult transponder on the more far out satellites which sometimes means late night trips to place a pebble or summat on one side or other of the ground mount. ![]() Edited Found the link: Another Contraption - Motorised This Time
