Hi, Im looking to buy either the Eurovox EX 5000 PVR or The Box PVR. Apart from the obvious difference of 'The Box PVR' having a twin tuner and bigger HDD capabilities and the Eurovox having a single tuner and only 120gb max are there any other differences that may sway my choice. Are firmware updates to access all channels available as much on The Box PVR as they are with the Euromax range. I would like to have the capablilites to watch a channel while recording the other and i know The Box PVR meets my requirments while the Euromax doesn't but im still not sure which is better. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I have just bought the BOX PVR and put a 320gb hard drive in it.Although i am new to this - it seems to be working ok up to now and the firmware updates seem to be readily available.Like yourself i was looking for something able to record one channel and watch another - the box pvr is doing this for me no problem.
hope this enables you to make a decision - maybe someone with the euromax will reply as well. |

As the Eurovox PVR only has a single tuner, it is only possible to watch a channel that is on the same frequency as the channel you are recording from so your viewing choice is limited whilst recording

Hi,
I've had "the Box PVR" for several months now. It's OK. I can record one channel and watch another but sometimes the recordings are not great eg choppy audio or on some occasions no audio. I'd say the recordings are fine about 80% of the time but it can be a bit irritating playing back jittery video/audio the other 20%. THe EPG is a bit unreliable too. Most days its fine but somedays I have to switch the unit off and on to get the EPG to kick in. I'm only using a 40GB HD (2.5 inch with a converter to fit the 3.5" IDE cable) PS where can I find the latest firmware for "the box PVR" when I search this forum it says the three letter words (the box PVR) are too short to search with.
