Default Seven new HD channels from Sky

BSkyB is boosting its HD channel line up with seven new high-def services, which will go live during September. Sky will then be transmitting 26 channels, and more are expected this side of Christmas.

Six of the new channels cover movie genres, while the seventh is Sky Real Lives. The movie genres are sci-fi/horror, action/thriller, drama, modern greats, family and comedy. Sky says it expects there to be around 12m HD ready TVs in the UK by the end of the year and as many as 23m by 2010.

"With equipment prices falling and the choice of content increasing, this is shaping up to be a big year for HD," said Hilary Perchard, Sky’s head of advanced TV products.
