Default Bt refund £223 call out

Good Morning.

BT charged myself and neighbours £223 call out for a lightening strike on
their main cable.

My neighbours all had the main sockets removed & replaced except me,BT
charged the £223 call out insisting it was an act of God etc.

However neighbour one, had the charge removed when he said no one gave authority to fit the new box, demanded the old box be returned,
etc etc, call out removed. Only his 14 year daughter was home.Openreach
did not say there would be a charge for work being do9ne.

Neighbour two, same situation in despute,

I wrote to BT no responce, gave up with India, I had put my bank on standby, I pay by monthly DD, my bank informed me BT were trying to take an extra £223, I told the bank to stop the DD immediate, bank told me BT should have informed me first as this was correct procedure.

So to date no bill for the £223, no responce, etc etc, then I found on the internet a number, so the wife dialed it(this is on BT Website) answer phone, within ten minutes a call back FROM UK, explanation was it is the
customer who is at fault, I explained it is illeagle to take money from my account without me being informed first,As I had not set up a DD for
repairs or call outs, also the main socket in my house was not touched
in the end BT backed down removed the charge (£223 call out), I got the ref number and said when I get the refund in writing I wlll re restart DDs
again, this is BT in a world of its own.

The fact that I could have gone overdrawn at the bank with the DD would have cost me £28 a day charges, so if you use the internet for paper free
saving £4.50 beware of Big Brother.

I wonder how many fall for this scam. It seems BT engineers are on target figures to change boxes that are working as a means to get commission,
a BT main box is £5.50 plus the £223 charge for changing it.
Watchdog where are you.( BT Engineers read Openreach and those contracted to openreach),

Pleased to hear that, however in Wales everyone gets charged for a lightening strike, the Indian call centres are all saying claim off your insurance which is fraud, my neighbour is using this angle to get his money back, In Wales all call outs for lightening get charged £223.
Which is immoral when it is BT equipment that is hit,and the cheek of it all is besides the £223 they get charged £5.50 for a main box, what the hell are we paying rental for. As for commission I take your word for it,the way everyone is charged in Wales makes it look like target figures.

Three homes together, all charged £223 looks like no coincidence and all
attended on the same day.
