Just to let you know, I finally fixed the dodgy red problem on my box.

The box initially had too little red but eventually it lost it all so I opened it up again and put a dot of solder on the SCART socket connections (I had investigated this before but hadn't managed to fix it) and to my general chuffedness it appears to have fixed the problem!
